Abstract

Despite the promotion of higher education in most areas of South Punjab, several social and cultural factors continue to pose significant obstacles to educational development. This study presents an analytical examination of these barriers, which particularly hinder students, especially women, in pursuing higher education. The research identifies linguistic challenges, economic deprivation, traditional values, gender discrimination, religious and tribal tendencies, and weaknesses in educational policies as the major contributing factors. The findings reveal that the prevailing cultural norms within the region influence the promotion of higher education, the quality of research, and teaching practices. Based on this study, it is recommended that cultural sensitivity, institutional reforms, and gender equality be encouraged within the educational system.
